1. When
I add frames to the one I have, it duplicates them. It doesn't just add
blank frames. And if I have frames with the same objects in them, a change
made to one will affect all.
2. I tried the Copy
to Frames and after doing more than one, get a mess of stuff that ends
up on one frame instead of the frame I told it to be on. Then I'll end
up with nothing on some frames. Can anyone help?
3. How do I move
an item from one layer to another?

A. You've
discovered one of the new features of Fireworks 2: Shared Layers. You
can make a layer be either shared across all frames, so that as you note,
changing one chages them all, which is good for doing backgrounds and "static" things, or the layer can be unique in each frame.
You can change whether the layer is shared
or not by selecting the layer and checking or unchecking the "Share across
frames" item in the opoins popup menu in the upper right corner of the
frames panel, or by double-clicking the layer to bring up the layer's
properties dialog.

Q.
I have several layers in Fireworks (yep, I'm a Photoshop user and am
really used to layers). I have combined the objects on my layers to make
them work correctly for my buttons, mouseovers, onclicks, etc. However,
when I try to create the Frames, it is a whole other story. I tried the
Copy to Frames and after doing more than one, get a mess of stuff that
ends up on one frame instead of the frame I told it to be on. Then I'll
end up with nothing on some frames. Can anyone help?

For what it's worth, Photoshop has a bit
of unusual interface with what it calls "layers"... they're different
from the layers found in Illustrator, FreeHand and Fireworks. For people
who are used to Photoshop, it can help in thinking of PS "layers" as just
image objects, which you can rearrange and layer together as you will
in other tools.

Hmm. Usually we show different button states
on different frames. Have you been able to go through the examples on
this yet?
(As a guess, if you've previously used
multiple "layers" in Photoshop to create different button states, then
we have a lot more freedom in Fireworks... you can use multiple frames
to organize the document, too.)

A(2).
One way that things get put into frames where you don't want them is when
a layer is set to share across frames in the Layer Options dialog. This
will cause layer information to appear in all frames without ever copying
anything.

Q. How do I move
an item from one layer to another?
A. When you have an object on a
layer selected, image or vector or anything, there is a little colored
box that appears in the Layers panel just to the right of the layer's
name. You can drag that little colored box to any other layer and this
will move the selected object to that layer. This allows you to move all
objects on a layer to any other layer, freeing the source layer for deletion.
Be sure to move the objects you want to keep on those layer in all the
frames you want to keep them in.
