     1. How do I get the eraser tool to behave like an eraser?
     2. How do I erase pieces of an image?
    3. Is there a way to tell FW2 to erase everything but one color?

     Q. How do I get the eraser tool to behave like an eraser? When I activate it all I get is a path line that disappears, but the pixels I want to erase remain.
     A. That eraser tool had me baffled until I finally figured out how powerful it could be. When editing vector lines I'd consider it a cutting tool as opposed to an eraser tool. When a line is drawn with that tool it'll cut all your vector lines into two sections.
Let's say you want to have a half circle but don't want to mess with the bezier tools. First select the circle, then use the cutting (eraser) tool to cut the circle in half. While at first glance it may seem like you still have a circle, you'll notice that you can now select one side or the other. Simply select the side you'd like to delete and hit [DEL]. Voila! Instant half circle.

    Q. How do I erase pieces of an image?
     A. If you're using FW1, first enter image edit mode by double-clicking on the image with the Pointer. Then select a selection tool (the Marquee, Lasso, or Magic Wand) and select the desired area. Press Delete and you're done.
If you're using FW2, beginning to work on an image with a selection (or other image tool) automatically enters you into image edit mode.

    Q. Is there a way to tell FW2 to erase everything, but one color or to erase everything of a given color?
     A. For vector objects use the Find and Replace panel to find any color and replace it with any other color.
For bitmap objects, use the Magic Wand tool set to a tight tolerance to select a range of pixels that comprise the color you wish to replace and then choose Edit>Select Similar to add all similar pixels to the selection. Then use the paint bucket to set the color to which you want to change.
