For those of you who've downloaded the ESD of Fireworks 2, and have not purchased the manual and the CD, you are missing out on some great additions to Fireworks. If you're relatively new at Fireworks and design (like me), you should consider purchasing the CD and manual (only $30, details at bottom of page). I got some great ideas about design, and using Fireworks from looking at the examples on the CD.

The following is a list of what is available on the CD. Everything is located in the Goodies folder.

Patterns

There are 70 patterns to add to Fireworks.

Textures

There are 21 textures to add.

Sample Files

In the Sample Files folder, there are examples of some of the things you can create with Fireworks. These are great for beginners to look at, and get ideas from. Some of them get pretty advanced, so there's something here for everybody. This folder includes:

  • 13 Animations
  • 14 Banners
  • 11 Navigation Buttons
  • 6 Page Layouts (Highly Recommended)
  • 6 Rollover Arrows

Clip Art

This area contains the motherload of goodies. There are over a thousand items to view and manipualte for your own pages. I couldn'tbelieve that there was this much stuff on the CD, all in PNG format, which makes every element editable. Great stuff. This area includes:

  • 20 Backgrounds
  • 50 Banners
  • 100 Bullets
  • 30 Bursts
  • 260 Buttons
  • 50 Headers
  • 1,162 Icons (From an ankh to a yoyo)
  • 100 Navigation Bars
  • 204 Rules
  • 51 Text
  • 7 Sets

Styles

There has to be hundreds if not thousands of styles to add to Fireworks. Styles are a new addition to Fireworks 2, and are, by default, located in the Layers and Frames window. They are sorted in three different ways, for easy viewing; Color Schemes, Type, and Styles.

     Color Schemes, sorted by:

  • Black and White
  • Blues
  • Browns
  • Greens
  • Purples
  • Reds
  • Yellows

     Type, sorted by:
  • Buttons
  • Text

     Styles, sorted by:

  • Banners
  • Button Styles
  • Buttons
  • Combined
  • Effects
  • Framelike
  • Miscellaneous
  • Mixed Glow
  • Style Examples
  • Text
  • Threads

On top of all that, there are also 30 day evaluation versions of Dreamweaver 2, Flash 3, Freehand 8, and Generator, as well as copies of IE4 and NN4.5, plus the FlashPlayer (both Active X and Netscape Plug-in) for free. I'm not trying to be a salesman for Macromedia, but it's the best money I've spent on software in quite awhile.
I also own Flash 3, and DW2 (this site is my first complete site with DW2, HomeSite 4 addict) As I said before, the CD is well worth the extra cost. If you agree, call Macromedia Customer Service at 1(800) 470-7211 to order the $30 package with the book and CD.
